How To Install Solar: A richly illustrated guide for solar power enthusiasts, DIY hacks, home owners and electricians in INDIA [Print Replica] Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 1 rating

NOTE: This book is about solar power installations in the country INDIA.

Solar energy may be free, abundant and renewable but solar power is not. The money needed to generate the latter is quite the opposite. If you do not plan carefully, you may end up paying more than what utility power would have cost. The solar power options for escaping frequent power cuts can be quite different from the ones for eliminating or reducing the electricity bill. If you know what to choose, then a home solar power installation will be easy enough that you can do it yourself. However, it will not be so simple that anyone can do it. A lead-acid battery stores so much energy that if not handled properly it can maim or kill a person. Did you know that a 100-AH lead-acid battery can only provide 50 AH of backup power? Solar panels generate very high amperes of current that they pose an unusual fire hazard that conventional fire-fighting techniques are useless or counterproductive. In a home with a solar power system, all family members need to be briefed about its usage, maintenance and safety. The usage will have to change during rainy season. There is quite a lot to learn and remember. That is where this richly illustrated book can help. Even though it has been written for Indian home-owners and electricians, anyone can read this book and understand what it has to say. Specifically, How To Install Solar provides:

  • an easy introduction to electricity and solar power
  • affordable solar power options for home-owners
  • important information to be aware of before and after installing solar power
  • steps for installing
    • a cheap DC power system using a solar charge controller that can
      • cost less than ₹6000
      • run light loads such as DC lights or a DC fan
    • an affordable AC power backup system using a solar inverter that can
      • cost less than ₹30,000
      • run selected AC loads directly on solar power
      • provide a few hours' backup during power cuts
  • an extensive FAQs section based on online posts/reviews published by solar power users

Thanks to a government-imposed lockdown, the author was forced to install a solar inverter on his own and do its AC wiring without an electrician. This book is the result of what he had learned before and after the installation. He will spare you the hassle, the confusion and the mistakes. Even electricians are not fully aware of everything there is to know. There is a lot of misinformation online. There are unscrupulous parts suppliers online and offline. If you are planning to do a solar power installation yourself, then this book will definitely help you. If you are planning to choose a professional solar power installer, this book will help you specify exactly what kind of solar power system you want and ensure that they install it properly.

You will never find another guy with so many talents as this one! V. Subhash is an invisible Indian writer, programmer, cartoonist and humourist. He grew up in 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗶 but is now settled in his native 𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗮.

⬦ In 2020, he published 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘫𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 — 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲. Subhash was inspired to write this giant jokebook after years of listening to vintage American radio shows such as 𝘍𝘪𝘣𝘣𝘦𝘳 & 𝘔𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘺 and 𝘋𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘺'𝘴 𝘛𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯. In the same year, he followed up with

⬦ a how-to book on the multimedia software FFmpeg and

   ⬦ a 400-page volume of 149 political cartoons.

 How did he do that?

⬦ Subhash pursues numerous hobbies and interests that inevitably became the subject of his books — like 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 and 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿. He used to have pet tortoises but they died in a parking accident. Everyone was crushed.

⬦ Although Subhash had published a few free ebooks as early as 2003, it was in 2020 that he learned to publish books in the traditional sense. 𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 2020, 𝘚𝘶𝘣𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘩 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘦𝘣𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 while also accumulating a lot of unpublished material.

⬦ By 2022, he had exhausted all that he could publish as books. Meanwhile, his probe into ‘aliens’ had revealed that they are just ordinary employees/contractors of US military and space agencies. They begged him not to write anything so he published his findings in his debut fiction title named 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. The stories turned out to be supernatural/paranormal/sci-fi fantasies with ample doses of action, horror and humour. Subhash is so happy with the decision that he now unabashedly believes that he is better than all other fiction writers that he had read in the past.

⬦ In 2023, Apress (SpringerNature) published his rewritten and updated FFmpeg book as 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗼 𝗙𝗙𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗴.

⬦ These days, Subhash spends his time

⬦ working on his lightweight Javascript-free CMS 𝗦𝗾𝗹𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿 using SQLite and plain-jane PHP (rarely)

   ⬦ blogging (almost weekly)

⬦ speculating on the Indian stockmarket (daily)
