I did not gat paid or receive anything for this review. I personally paid for and purchased this item at Amazon.ca

First : There is no remote with this model but it does have a beautiful chrome dial knob that looks very distinctive and like all Rowenta products this unit is super quality and works absolutely great. The stand is black and is slightly oblong and not completely round. The motor is also a black and the Fan Blades are a baby blue colour ( common on all Rowenta Fans ) with the front and back fan blade guards are a high lustre chrome. The Rowenta Name Plate on the the front chrome fan guard is black. The unit is brain dead easy to assemble and took me less than 5 minutes to complete the assembly. The only tool required is a philips screwdrivers to join the two fan guards together.

There are four speeds on the dial / knob > Speed 1 and 2 and Turbo and Silent mode and the unit can either oscillate or be directional by pulling or pushing the black plastic peg on the top of the fan motor. The Silent mode is super quiet just like it is on the 16 inch models and the turbo is very powerful and not that noisy. When you select Turbo or Silent mode on the dial / knob a white LED indicator appears on the base indicating that you're in that mode. At the current Amazon.ca price of less than $60. for this black model, I personally consider this a BEST BUY in table fans. There are several similar Rowenta Table Fan models available that have remotes that have identical output of air and silence mode specs for more than double the price of this black model. Due to the location of this table fan the remote was not important to me so I saved more than 50% on my purchase. I have 3 of the 16 inch Rowenta Stand fans ( Silver / Black / Chrome models with remotes ) through out the house and it is my opinion and experience that any of Rowenta Extreme Fans listed on Amazon.ca will be the best fans you will ever purchase. All the Rowenta fans I have purchased over the years have all been super quality when they arrived and are absolutely beautiful to view and have all performed flawlessly over the years. I hope you enjoyed my review of this product. .

I used this fan all summer, and am very happy with it. It looks really nice, is very quiet on low settings, and is not difficult to disassemble for cleaning the grid or fan blades. The turbo mode is pretty strong and blows a lot of air around the room. The oscillating feature is very quiet and smooth. You can tilt the fan head up or down. The Sleep Mode is just a very low fan speed. It's very quiet and creates a light breeze. There are 4 fan speeds in total, from Sleep to Turbo.

The only con is the white LED light that goes on for Sleep Mode. In a really dark room it could be a bit bright. I live in a city, so, it's never pitch dark in my bedroom, so it doesn't bother me. A bit of black electrical tap over it would solve the problem. But overall, a very good and nice-looking fan that works well and doesn't feel like it'll break in a year. But if it does, I'll let you know.

I love the Rowenta fans in terms of solid reliability and because they're generally pretty quiet. But every single model has something weird in the design, and this model is no exception. In this case it's the sleep mode.

In my other Rowenta fans the levels are 1-2-3-turbo. In this fan the modes are 1-2-turbo-sleep. To be clear, sleep mode is not any quieter than the other fans, it matches level 1 on the other fans I have. So this fan has the same 4 settings, just called different things.

It's also super-bizarre that "sleep mode" is at the high end of the fan. In order to turn it on and get to sleep mode I have to go through 1, 2 and turbo. So the fan clicks through roaring loud before it gets to sleep quiet.

The other odd thing is that when sleep mode is on there is a very bright light that turns on as well. This light is brighter than the nightlight in our hallway! It's so bright that three layers of duct tape can't block the light. I finally covered it in several layers of electrical tape because it's so bright it interrupted our sleep. Why put a super-over-bright light on sleep mode?

So some poor design decisions, which is common to every Rowenta fan I've purchased.

But the reason I keep buying them is because they work well and are super-reliable and and quietest setting (whatever they call it, different from fan to fan) is the quietest of any fan I've tried while still moving a decent amount of air.

I would recommend this fan, despite the weird design aspects.

Designing a fan should be simple: Move lots of air as quietly as possible. That's it.

Yet these days, most fans -- like most electronics -- are loaded with silly features. Remote controls, thermostats, timers, modes, LEDs and of course BEEPS! What's next? I have to download an app to operate my fan? Unless you look at loud, industrial fans, it's hard to find one with a simple manual switch.

This one is gets the important things right. On low (sorry, "Silent Night" mode) it's almost inaudible yet moves air. And the higher levels move lots of air yet remain relatively quiet.

It does have stupid LEDs. Like I need to know I'm in "Turbo Boost" mode? Or I want a bright light to tell me I'm in night mode (???) But at least it doesn't emit a loud alarm to tell me I've gone into quiet mode. (Oh yes, some modern fans do just that.)

I wish they'd take out the LEDs. I shouldn't have to deface my new fan with black electricians tape. And I wish they'd sensibly re-order the speeds (ignoring the dumb marketing names, it's basically OFF-2-3-4-1). But I'm giving it a 5 because it moves lots of air quietly, has a simple manual control, and does not beep.

Footnote: The manual is ridiculously bad. You'll have to figure out how to assemble it. It's easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good fan
Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2024
    Style: Table FanVerified Purchase
Pros: This fan has been in constant use for the last 3 weeks, rarely shut off. It's still quiet and I'm very pleased with it. It's very simple and easy to put together, even without instructions, especially if you've assembled an electric fan before and are familiar with the basics of how they generally fit together. And if you haven't, there are instructions in the box. No tools required. The lowest setting is virtually silent, even standing directly in front of the fan, which is a really excellent feature. The air flow is gentle and steady, and would probably not keep you awake either. The next setting is not noisy, it's just not silent, but it's very quiet, with a more noticeable air flow. The highest (Turbo) setting isn't noisy either, as fans go these days, but it's the noisiest setting on this fan. It provides the highest air flow, which is perfectly fine as long as you're sitting nearby (within 6') and not across the room. The fan feels sturdy. There's nothing distracting about the way it looks or sounds, so it's easy to forget it's even there. It rotates quietly, sweeping 180 degrees.
Cons: It is not the most powerful fan on the market. It is expensive, and could probably be sold at a lower price, but I did not feel ripped off or cheated.
Summary: It works really well. I would buy another one if I needed another fan. I have several "Comfort Zone" fans that are around the same size, and are more powerful, but they are noticeably louder. In my opinion, the very best fan, which is slightly larger than the "Comfort Zone," is the Lasko fan, but I haven't been able to find that model this year. The Lasko is a very powerful fan, but it is also noticeably louder than the Rowenta fan.
If you can afford to splurge a little, and really need a silent fan to set on your bed-side table or your desk, I would really recommend the Rowenta.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bedroom fan ever
Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2024

I wanted a quiet fan for my bedroom. I didn't need it to move a lot of air, but I did want some circulation in the room. Reviews said this thing was quiet so I gave it a shot. This is THE quietest fan I've ever used. I can't stand the 'white noise' or 'pink noise' fans. I just wanted air. This is my 'mystery breeze' fan. In bedtime mode, I can barely hear it. Just a quiet little him from the motor, no rushing air noise etc. I get up in the morning and don't even know it's still running until I go back into the room for something and wonder where the little breeze is coming from. I have searched long and hard for a fan I could sleep with and I've finally found one. It provides enough air so I can sleep, and after the first minute or so I can't even hear it. Awesome. When cranked up it will make a little air noise but even then it's not much. It doesn't put out what I would call a lot of air, but then, that's not what I bought it for. I have plenty of fans if that is the goal. This one moves plenty and it's quiet. Seems well built so I would imagine it'll be around a while. Spendy, but I'm glad I got one.

2.0 out of 5 stars 18" tall, not 18" blade size
Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2024
    Style: Table FanVerified Purchase
I'm sure this fan is adequate for a small room. I, as many others, may have saw the 18" size and thought that referred to the blade size. My older stand fan WAS the 18" blade size. This one fooled me because it is a small 12" blade size, so it does NOT put out much air at all. Even on the TURBO setting. If you are within 6-8' of it, you can get a nice breeze. I just brought it back out of my garage from last year. Then I remembered why I put it there in the 1st place. It's over 100 degrees here in the summer and my Lasko stand fan just stopped working after 2 yrs. Unfortunately, I didn't purchase the extra warranty. I did this time. Lasko went up $11 in 2 yrs since I got it in 2022. But the price on this Rowenta increased by $12 in only 1 yr. Rowenta puts out a tiny bit of air but is smaller and more expensive. This is what compelled me to write a review, which I rarely do. I guess many people have small rooms that need a little air circulating. My Lasko fan blows much more air, is quiet and has a remote, which is a must for me. In may years of fan experience, I've found, and read many reviews, that its not the number of blades that puts out more air. It's the size of the blades. When most people scan for a fan, they are looking for a size, mainly in reference to the size of the blade, to consider the output of the air. Not if it stands a few inches higher or lower on your table or stand, Its portable. So you can put it at many different levels in your home. Apparently companies know this and advertise in the heading of their product listing, 18" to attract people like me, looking for blade size/air output. In all my years of purchasing fans, I've NEVER seen them lead with the tallness of a table top room fan. Well, they got me. They no longer sell table top fans with 16" blades that really put out a significant amount of air. So when after a long time of looking for a fan online, reading specs and reviews, saw Rowenta table fan that said in Bold letters, 18" Table Fan. After looking at many many fans, I missed down in the specs where it said 12" wide. And that's exactly what they hope for; consumers believe the big heading but miss the small specs down the bottom I now know they do those deceptive practices with even a room fan, it WILL NOT happen to me again. I can be naive sometimes and believe what I'm told, & not always read all of the small print down the bottom because I'm busy, as we all are. I've learned the hard way many times. And the pictures can make items look bigger also. So don't be a picture only looker. Read not only the best or most recent reviews. I read the ones that have less than 3 stars. A lot of positive reviews does NOT always mean a great product. I've bought many things over my many many years of online purchase. It never used to take so long to purchase something online and get what they said. But, that is NOT always the case now. So it can take a long time to do your due diligence on even a little thing; even a tabletop fan. But, who takes the time to catch every little detail they throw at you. I now have another item I have purchased to junk or donate. God Bless Free speech. At least we have the right to speak up. Just would be nice if someone would listen and do something about these practices from companies...I'm off my soapbox now. ;)
