    1. power source - 3 AA batteries makes it very bright. Really bright. Also a long lasting power source, much better than rechargeables, especially since a spare set of batteries is very easy to carry.
    2. battery pack- batteries load in box on back of strap. They're out of the way of the lamp and balance the load very nicely, easy and comfortable to wear.
    3. Strap - easy to adjust, stays put, thanks to top strap. As comfortable as any other headlamp strap
    4. Very, very bright - gives you a nice feeling when you're out in those dark, spooky woods
    5. "zoom" beam works well, easy to adjust, from a wide field to focused beam.
    6. Low-level brightness for conserving batteries
    7. So far switch works great.
    Not So Crazy About...
    I'd be a little wary of its construction for heavy duty use, a lot of plastic. I don't think one would want this for pro use, like for a forest ranger or miner or something. But for the occasional camper or household/garage use, it's awesome. We're getting a second one.
    If anything goes south with its performance, we'll be back to share. Otherwise, no news is good news.

    I have been reading lots of 5 star reviews, and was a bit dubious about the claims from reviewers. Once I opened the package, put in the batteries and turned it on, all doubts were alleviated. The light quality and quantity IS truly solid, it creates a brilliant, consistent pool of bluish white light instead of a pin point, that fades out to the sides. I really like the ability to focus the beam from a wide circle to a smaller square of light to allow for more focus.
    The overall design of the headset is comfortable and adjustable so I can turn my head in any direction or orientation without falling off. Most importantly, the lamp can be worn securely and is still comfortable. I wore it on an hour and a half run and it didn't rub, press, or create pressure points that made me need to shift, adjust, or reposition it; it felt fine the entire time.
    I have also worn it while tackling the Incline in Manitou Springs going through heavy mist/low clouds and very light rain without any problems from the moisture. I was in the fog for about 55 minutes all told, and didn't have any issues. I will give updates if I notice any changes in the future.
    As for those that were asking about a red light filter, I tried using red Sarah Wrap and a rubber band and it worked just fine as a jury rig. The bulb doesn't get hot, so the film didn't melt or rub off on the lens itself, and the housing still moved so I could focus the beam without hindrance. I don't need the red light filter myself, and won't be using it again in the future, I just wanted to try it for a while and see what happened.

    Received today, at first glance the build quality is decent, if not high quality. Light is bright, but the lack a gasket on the battery compartment pretty much means that this is dead first time you use it in the rain. That can probably be fixed by a simple O-ring in the right size range, we'll see. I am already seeing issues with the fact that the battery compartment connects to the over-the-head strap, this could be a very weak link, again, we'll see.

    The light is certainly bright, and the flash mode seems more likely to induce seizures than any other purpose. For the money, it as bright as my Petzl lights, but I am far from sure that I would take this with me on a climb or night hike, but for basic camping and as a back up in the car, it seems like a really good deal.

    Had to wrap this one up for Christmas, so no word yet on battery life or durability. If I have problems with it, I'll be back here, otherwise - if you only have $30 to spend on a headlamp, this seems like a pretty decent purchase!

    Follow up - after first couple of uses -

    Still have not had this out in any sort of wet, but first impressions are still good. The light is comfortable, and the switch is reasonably easy to hit even wearing glove liners. I don't care for the fact that I have to cycle through the settings to turn this off. That strobe feature is "WOW" and somewhat annoying. The zoom, once you figure it out is easy to use, just slide the lens in and out - it is strange though that at maximum intensity, the shape of the "beam" changes to a square with small lines in it. Haven't yet used it enough to have any feel for battery life, but for a couple of hours use, it has been fine.

    Straps are heavy duty. The weight of the batteries on the back is unnoticeable. This light is barely brighter than any of those led flashlights that use one 18650 battery. This is a bright head light. The button to change from high to low and strobe is easy to find and press. I don't know why there's a strobe on this light but should I ever encounter any kind of rodent in a crawlspace I'll use the strobe and update my review.

    UPDATE: The plastic pieces on the side to hold the headstrap on will break. I took JB Weld epoxy to put them back on and it's solid. They need to make a version of this light that will take a 18650 battery.

    This light is by far the best I've put on. I use it every year for the past 8 years for hunting, camping and backpacking. I even use it when working on my vehicles. The focused light beam is amazing. I usually run it on low power until I need the high power for distance.
    The only reason this is not a 5 star is due to the loop that holds the straps in place is very weak. I had the reinforce one using PVC cut to fit and then glued in place, now I have to rework another one that broke.
