About this item

  • Deco uses a system of units to achieve seamless whole-home WiFi coverage — eliminate weak signal areas once and for all!
  • A Deco E4 three-pack delivers WiFi to an area of up to 4,000 square feet . And if that’s not enough, simply add more Decos to the network anytime to increase coverage.
  • Deco E4 can handle traffic from even the busiest of networks, providing lag-free connections for up to 100 devices
  • Parental Controls limits online time and block inappropriate websites according to unique profiles created for each family member
  • With advanced Deco Mesh Technology, units work together to form a unified network with a single network name. Devices automatically switch between Decos as you move through your home for the fastest possible speeds.
  • Each Deco E4 Unit has 2 10/100Mbps Ethernet Ports. Supports WAN/LAN auto-sensing
  • TP-Link Deco Mesh WiFi System: All TP-Link Deco models can work together. While a single Deco unit can be used as a stand-alone router, Deco works best when multiple units work together as part of a system. (Deco Mesh models do not work with OneMesh devices)

We FINALLY have WiFi!

We FINALLY have WiFi!
Our WiFi was always a cause of frustration in our house, and it was exacerbated when I had to start working from home in Spring of 2020. Connecting to the company's VPN or attending virtual meetings was nearly impossible and quite frankly embarrassing when I had to constantly explain to my co-workers "my WiFi isn't working, so you might lose me on this virtual call," or "my WiFi won't stay connected to the VPN, so I can't access certain files."...Enter TP Link Mesh WiFi.It might seem like an overstatement to say that this was life-changing, but it really is. We finally, FINALLY have WiFi that works! Throughout the entire house! What a concept! It's absolutely remarkable.I am not an IT expert. I have a moderate knowledge of how IT works by googling on an issue-by-issue basis. I found the reviews on this site have been extremely helpful, so I thought I should add to the list of (hopefully) helpful reviews. On that note, here are a few things I learned with this system:- The system I purchased was the Deco Whole Home Mesh WiFi System AC1200 Deco E4 for $150 CAD. It came with three identical WiFi signal "units" (these are the three white towers that are about the size of a vase).- Our house is a 1,500 sq ft bungalow with a full basement. Like many houses, our router/modem is in the basement in our furnace room. Previous to the installation of the Deco system, our WiFi signal in the basement was okay, but still unreliable, and our WiFi signal on the main floor (where we are 99% of the time) was infuriatingly slow.- Our internet service provider is Shaw, and we are on a Fibre + 25 plan, which means we are paying for 25Mbps (megabits per second). We mainly use our internet to stream and cast movies (Netflix, Crave, and Prime cast to Google Chromecast), and to check emails/browse internet. Please don't be fooled in thinking that you need to pay for a 100Mbps or more if you're a family of 3 or 4 and all you do is stream videos, check emails, and browse sites. Unless you're a big gamer, 25 megs should be plenty enough (from what I've googled, anyway).- Technologically, our house is not a "smart" house. We do, however, have two webcam/security cameras (one to check on the dog, the other to check in the nursery), we have a Google Nest Protect WiFi Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (to alert us on our cell phones when we're at work if there's a fire in our house -- again, for the sake of our pup), and a wireless printer. Plus our cell phones and laptops. So a few things that rely on a WiFi signal.- I ran a speed test in several key locations in our house prior to installing the Deco system. Although we are paying for 25Mbps, we were getting less than 2Mbps in our living on the main floor. LESS THAN 2 MEGS! So much money spent on getting a fraction of the internet we were paying for. And let me be clear, I had reached out to Shaw on SEVERAL occasions to ask why our internet was so slow, and they were never able to rectify the issue. On that note, Shaw also appears to provide a mesh WiFi system ("add WiFi pods for $10 a month") so that might be an option for you as well, but for me, I wanted to take matters into my own hands. Once the Deco system was installed, I ran another speed test in the same locations: 27 Mbps where we were previously only getting 2Mbps! 27!!! And let me tell you: such a huge difference in the performance of all things that rely on WiFi! Documents actually print when they are sent to the printer! No more buffering videos! The webcams actually do what webcams do! It's absolutely wonderful!- The Deco system installs quite easily. The app will walk you through the instructions. One of the towers will have to be hardwire-connected to your router/modem. That tower will then cast a WiFi signal to the other two towers that you will place in your house (we have one in the living room on the main floor and one in the master bedroom on the main floor). These other two will just require a power outlet.- You WILL have to stop your regular WiFi from transmitting a signal. My Google Chromecast had me in an infinite loop of system set-up until I realized I had not disabled the previous WiFi signal. Some people in the reviews mention putting the modem in "bridge" mode, but this is not possible with Shaw (they "want to control this feature", said the Shaw tech support person, so it wasn't accessible to me). However, I found that I could "disable" the WiFi signal. I have a Cisco modem, so I was able to do this by going to the gateway login page (192.168.0.1.) signing in (username: cusadmin; password is your wifi password), and disabling the WiFi. Essentially, the internet that you're paying for from your service provider will be hardwired to the Deco Tower, then the Deco towers will provide the WiFi for your house. And that's it! Now all you have to do is change all your devices to connect to the new WiFi signal, and you're golden! We've had our system in place for a month now with no hiccups, and I am actually a happier person because of it. For reals. Actual happiness. It's amazing.Definitely worth the investment.

I have a ton of routers and signal boosters, but I have never been happy with having to change SSIDs as I walk around my house or office. The routers that came from the internet providers simply don't cover my entire area with a strong signal, so boosters, repeaters, and routers were the solution. Until these TP-Link mesh units came along.

These are trivial to install. You load an app on your phone or tablet, plus one of the units into the Internet-provided router (or any router, for that matter, connected to the Internet), specify a SSID for the mesh network (all the hubs use the same SSID so walking around doesn't necessitate changing SSIDs), a password, and let the system configure itself. Additional hubs are added through the app and connect to the base hub, then provide a signal around that expansion hub. The hubs can be used wirelessly, or you can connect two Ethernet cables for devices that can't use wi-fi. For example, I have an older Blu-Ray player that requires a hardwired Internet connection, so I simply plug it into a nearby hub and it works perfectly.

There's no practical limit to the number of hubs you can have, all with the same SSID. I have a 7,500 square foot house, and three hubs were enough to blanket the entire house area (the router is in the basement, and two hubs on the two floors above it). My office has six hubs, because of concrete partition walls that degrade wi-fi signals. I get a strong (three bars or more) signal through the area.

These hubs do knock your speed down a little, but that's to be expected. I have a 1GB Internet connection that, on a good day, really can only deliver about 700kbpsl through the TP-Link hub I consistently get above 500kbps.

So far, both my mesh networks (home and office) have worked perfectly; the ability to use a single SSID and easily add more hubs make this is the easiest network I have ever installed. I cannot recommend this mesh network setup highly enough: if you need expanded signal coverage, to provide hard-wire capabilities for devices, or want to simplify your networked life, these TP-Link mesh network hubs are a superb, simple solution.

This WiFi mesh system has surpassed my expectations and has been working great for nearly 2 months with no issues! WiFi connection is great throughout the house with no dead zones. No WiFi outages at all! Haven’t had to touch these devices since initial set up! So easy to set up too! The app is great and I can see all devices that are connected, as well as devices that have been connected but are currently turned off. I know this system can handle up to 150 devices. I don’t have anywhere near this many but have quite a few and all are working great! I had no issues connecting older devices either, with the instructions provided. Very easy. Most of my devices require 2.4 G and this system a accommodates them all! Great transaction, fast shipping and great packaging to protect the devices! Well worth the money. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing and it paid off! Glad I went with this system! One of the reasons, too, was the potential to cover up to 7000 square feet, which was higher than other mesh systems in this price range. I have outdoor WiFi devices that are working great as well due to the great range! I live rurally and the distance I needed wasn’t a security issue but if you live in an area that’s more populated, just we’d to consider the range this covers. However, it’s password protected and with the app, if anyone does manage to connect to your WiFi somehow, you’ll be able to see an unfamiliar device in the device list. Highly recommend!

Since I’ve been working from home for almost a year, I noticed my internet speeds to be slow and my wifi would constantly drop. At first I attributed this to my ISP not working well. I tried some wifi extenders which didn’t really help. I finally decided to look into a new router but most of the high end ones were expensive.

But I happened to stumble upon this mesh system (dual pack). I liked the look of the devices and price was reasonable. After receiving the package, I was able to get internet up and running fairly quickly with the first device. I did have to reboot my cable modem and login to my wifi again (used same name) so that could have caused delay.

Getting the second device installed was pretty fast as well and I put it near my work devices. A minor complaint was the three pack wasn’t available so I ended up buying another pair. I put one device need my living room tv and game machine.

All the work is done through an app which is different than old days of using a web GUI. Since the install my internet speeds have been good and signals don’t drop. The devices let you create a main and guest network as well. I use the guest for my 2.4 signal for cameras and other devices that can’t use the newer band.

One thing with mentioning: the devices have a blacklist feature but you can’t whitelist. So if some random device appears on the network you can will be notified by the app and then block it. You can’t just create a white list of devices. Some people may not like that. But it works ok for me

All in all, buying two pairs was not cheap but I like the setup. Worth a look!
