4.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, beautifully made, very sharp knife, comfortable, high-quality blade. But lightweight.
The knife came in a nice black box, the box has a magnetic latch for keeping it close. The knife was in a protective sleeve and held firmly in a cut-to-shape foam "pocket". So, it's not a cheap carton box that you would throw away right after opening, if you want to store the knife in its original packaging this box is a keeper and will last long.
The knife itself looks beautiful with a hammered pattern all over the blade, Chinese hieroglyphs imprint, and a wooden handle. I'm not an expert on knives, so I don't know if this knife is really handmade as the manufacturer states in the description or if it's made to look like it's "handmade". I personally tend to think that it's a combination of both when the blade was pre-manufactured mechanically and then it was finished and sharpened manually. If there are knife experts around here, please comment on this and tell me what you think.
The wooden handle looks beautiful, however, it automatically implies that you will not be able to put your knife in a dishwasher. At least not without destroying the handle finish. I would also recommend using a very mild dishwashing solution and remember to apply some mineral oil (or any other wood conditioning solution of your preference) on the handle after every wash. You also must wipe out clean and lightly oil the blade itself in order to prevent any rust developing on it. As the description specifically says, "Due to high carbon steel content of this meat cleaver, so it might easily be rust ,so please keep it clean and dry after each use." I would say that it's a "high maintenance" knife. While it's not a deal breaker for me as I wash all my knives from my collection by hand, it is something that you should definitely take into account before placing an order.
Overall, I'd say, the knife is very well made. The golden floral style head at the end of the handle looks fantastic and will definitely attract the attention of your guests. It is comfortable to hold, it has good balance, it's easy to swing. The edge is very sharp, which I expected but the first time I took it out to give it a try, I noticed that the weight of the knife is noticeably lighter than the other knife of similar style I already have in my collection. The total weight of the knife is only 254 grams. But it does not feel like a cheap thin bladed knife at all, the blade is "thick" and does not bend, handles very well. So, I don't know. It was kind of strange to me but did not affect knife performance.
Knife has easily handled meat, fish skin-on, veggies - all the regular stuff. Haven’t tried it on frozen meat yet, which sometimes I need (for Mongolian BBQ, etc.), but I will when the time comes. It's very comfortable to hold and handle, its wooden handle is just the right size for my hand and its shape is just as your hand likes it. Also waiting for the time, it will require sharpening to see how it handles a whetstone. I will update this review after the first sharpening with more thoughts and information.
*** Bottom line ***
Yes, I do recommend this knife, it performs on par if not better than my German pro-grade Henkel chef knife and it looks beautiful. It looks like a collection piece if you are into collecting knives and it's very good as a kitchen tool. I would give this knife 5 stars in a heartbeat if not only for the amount of maintenance it requires. Otherwise, it's a great knife, I really like it!
Pros:
1) Great quality.
2) Beautifully made.
3) Very sharp knife.
4) Comfortable to hold.
5) High quality "thick" quality blade.
Cons:
1) Kinda on the light side.
2) Not sure if it is really "handmade"?
3) Not dishwasher safe, it will damage the wooden handle.
4) Requires wiping and oiling the blade after each cleaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I love this knife. It is so beautiful that I don't want to use it.
