About this item

  • ANTIBACTERIAL: We chose to use maple because it has been proven to be naturally antibacterial and has studies proving its ability to halt the growth of and kill bacteria, making it a safe choice for you and your family.
  • SUSTAINABLE AND RENEWABLE: According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the average maple tree will take 30 years to reach seeding maturity but may be harvested sooner. Considering that this is decades less than other species, making it a more sustainable and renewable resource.
  • VERSATILE / MULTI-USE: Our products are not only beautiful and resistant; they are also versatile. Most cutting boards are reversible and can be used on both sides. In addition, if you want to impress your guests, our boards are the perfect serving platter for meals and appetizers.
  • 100% CANADIAN: At Labell we use 100% premium Canadian wood because it is important for us to use locally sourced raw material and support local suppliers. We are a family-owned business which takes pride in providing high quality products.
  • EASY MAINTENANCE AND CARE: As we all know life is busy and we are always looking for ways to spend more time with our loved ones, and more time to enjoy life. That is why an easy maintenance and care is one of the best attributes of our boards. Simply wash using warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Rinse, wipe clean and allow to dry in an upright position. Upon purchase and every 4-5 washes, thoroughly apply mineral oil on every surface of your board using a lint-free cloth.

After studying all of the various wooden cutting boards available on Amazon I opted for this one. The price was right and it looked like it would do the trick and I must say I am very pleased. It's solidly constructed with zero flex, the size is great (I considered the 18 x 24 model but eventually opted for a slightly smaller format), and frankly it's rather beautiful, which is a bonus, especially when compared to your standard polypropylene board. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and in fact I am so pleased that I decided to finally write my first product review on Amazon after countless transactions over the years. As it is made from wood there could be some variation from board to board but I am fairly confident that you can't go wrong with a Labell-made board!

It was not delivered by promised date as it was not delivered to my address but to a neighbour 2 doors away. That neighbour found it on his doorstep on the following day and gave it to us. My name and address on the label was correct, so the carrier didn’t check the house number correctly.

I bought one of these boards about 8 years back, and I managed to scorch it on my gas stove, leaving a solid black trivet imprint on one side, and a bit of delamination as well. So I bought another one here a few weeks ago. As good as anything I've used, and I plan to buy another one for the cabin. Nicely made, the first one lasted and lasted before I ruined it. A little care, and it will last as well as those costing three times as much. Don't hesitate.

If I'm going to review this product fairly, I want to give you a background as to why I chose it and why for now, it is a satisfactory board. I'm located in vancouver, Canada. I've had my eye on a Boos Block for some time, specifically the 20x15x1.5 Inch maple block. The prices here in Canada are stupid, add to that taxes and delivery and the item ends up costing three times the amount you would pay in the USA (which is 22 miles from where I live). I tried finding a like product on Amazon.ca but nothing turned up that would satisfy me. So I decided upon this block, firstly because it is Canadian maple, it's made locally, and price + shipping was reasonable. The product size wise is quite smaller than what I wanted (I compromised on the measurements in case I was making a huge mistake by ordering the larger board. But it has turned out to be the most convenient size whereas I can leave it on the counter or put it away (which is my preference currently).

Packaging was satisfactory, delivery was a bit slow. Max for the performance of the board. It's OK. It's not a grippy as I would like (when your knife meets the board there is little satisfactory meeting of the board and the blade. I'm by no means an expert but it seems to me that you get what you pay for.

For the price as a gift it's lovely. When I get my boos block I'll use this one for meat, then when it splits or spoils will eventually get a nice butchers block.

As regards the physical appearance, it is a bit off with regards to a huge red stripe running down an otherwise golden board. It was very rough when I got it, so I treated it to some mineral oil and boos block cream, with the intention of making it stain free and water resistant. It's so dry it will need lots of overnight coats.

It's not a bad block, suitable for a student, a mom, a budding chef, someone on a budget, irregular cook...

You will like it, just make sure you give it some love, lots of mineral oil at night and let it saturate, wipe off in the morning. Repeat every day for a week. Then once a week, once a month and then once every few months.

The size is good for washing in the sink (I live in a open plan townhouse with a double sink, it fits just fine to wash quickly (don't soak). Wipe it down with a clean cloth or paper towel, but if you have to wash, do so with very weak 1:10 detergent (1) to water (10), dry it off and stand upright to dry getting air all around is good.

Sorry for the disjointed review it 12.30am and I'm a tired mum of two. Best of luck.

The board is made of multiple blocks of cedar wood that are glued together. It has split in two after several months. The two separate pieces are usable, but it is not what I expected to purchase.
