5,0 sur 5 étoiles Three Groups. Three Channels, Great value for money, but budget for the controller as well
I bought a very inexpensive iShoot wireless flash trigger many years ago and it still works, though the connection where it plugs into my studio flash seems to be getting a little temperamental. That, and finding myself wanting to not have to rely on ‘slave’ setting to fire more than one flash, led me to thinking about investing in an updated wireless system.
So after the inevitable review reading, and the fact that I already own a couple of Yongnuo manual flashguns, I settled for these.
You get two because one goes on the camera hotshoe to act as a transmitter, and the other sits under the flashgun to act as receiver. I haven’t actually tried that aspect out because at the same time as I ordered these I ordered the YONGNUO YN-622C-TX LCD Flash Transmitter for YN-622C Trigger. This makes the whole set up much more versatile. But I’ll restrict my review to the receiver aspect of the YN622.
What you get is a plastic rectangle about the size of a pack of playing cards (roughly 2” x 3.5” x 1”) packed in a little bubble wrap envelope which I would suggest you hang on to. The top surface is made of a different sort of plastic from the rest of it. It is highly reflective and looks as though it would scratch easily (hence the need to retain the protective packaging).
Each unit is powered by 2 x AA batteries (not supplied) and accessed on the underside. The battery compartment opens easily and there is no problem fitting the batteries. There is a male hot shoe connector on the underside and a female hot shoe connector on the top of the unit. The bottom one can fit onto a camera, or a support, such as the Lastolite Tilthead Ratchet Movement with Slide on Flash Shoe that I find incredibly useful for holding a portable flash and brolly. The flashgun then goes into the hot shoe on the top of the trigger.
To switch it on there is a sliding two position switch on the right hand side. On the opposite side is a test button to check that everything is working, and also a PC connector - though the type of flashes which need a PC connector probably have too high a triggering voltage to use safely with this unit, so that feature may be redundant.
On the top of the unit there are 7 x LED lights – three on each side, and a power-on red light adjacent to the hot shoe connector. There is also a button on each side to control the lights. The LEDs on the left are for channel selection, those on the right for group selection.
Channels are handy for occasions when there is more than one photographer using the lights because this allows you to fire them independently of each other. They can be set as individual channels or grouped together. The channel grouping (not to be confused with the groups on the other side) is selected by continued presses of the Channel selection button. It goes 1, 2, 3, 1&2, 1&3, 2&3, 1&2&3, then back to 1 again.
The groups allow you to control the settings of flashes in the same Channel. Three groups are catered for. So if you have a main light and a fill light, assign them to group 1 and group 2, then you can make adjustments to each flash individually from the camera position. Great for doing stuff like photographing interiors/weddings where it may not be easy to access each flash to make minor adjustments. This is especially useful where you may be firing three or four portable flashes into a single brolly or softbox so that individual flash power can be reduced - thus making the batteries last much longer. All of them can be assigned to the same group and any adjustments will be applied to all of the flashes without needing to fiddle with each one individually. The downside of course is that you need one transceiver per flashgun to achieve this. The whole process, though, is very much easier with the TX controller, but some changes can be made via the external flash control menus built in to the camera if you want to use one of these transceiver units on camera and one connected to a flashgun. My Canon 6D allows me to modify the zoom setting on the flash, and a few other things but not the power setting. I don’t know whether newer camera models allow access to more functions.
I’ve only used it for still life work so far and I’m totally happy with it. My only complaint is that they seemed to be a little temperamental sometimes working, sometimes not working, but with a little playing around it seems I need to switch the flashgun on first and then switch on the transceiver. Since I’ve been doing that I’ve had 100% reliability.
I think these are brilliant, and unless you’re a full time professional they will probably serve as well as the much more expensive Pocket Wizards. I’m totally happy with them, but I would strongly recommend getting hold of the 622-TX controller. This unit, for an additional £30 ish, adds so much more functionality and frees up one of the transceivers for use with another flashgun so straightaway you can start to play around with group settings – this is my favourite bit, just dialling in whatever power I want from each flashgun as I stand behind the camera.

Cuando los usas tu solo van genial, responden muy rapido y eficientemente pero....cuando hay otro emisor cerca de otro fotografo se vuelven locos y a mi me desconfiguran hasta la cámara. Pero si la sesión la haces tu solo van increible!!

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Finally - radio triggers that work every time! And ETTL too - bonus!
I've had stacks of cheap Chinese radio triggers over the past few years, with varying results, some only seemed to function 50% of the time. But now, finally - radio triggers that work every time, with the bonus of ETTL, and at a fraction of the cost of some other well known manufacturer's product. The these are superb and the strobe power and A:B ratio can be controlled from the camera's on board flash function menu. I have 4 of these triggers - 1 on camera as a commander, another on my Canon 580 EXII and the other 2 on a pair of YN 565 EX slaves. When combined with Yongnuo's equally fantastic value for money flashguns, strobist off camera flash is now truly affordable. Outstanding! ***** 5 stars.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Seems to work efficiently on first acquaintance.
Haven't really put them through their paces yet, but everything seems to work efficiently, very easy set up, simple to operate.
