Descrizione prodotto

Convert a standard parallel printer into a shared network printer over a 10/100 Ethernet network

The PM1115P2 Ethernet to Parallel Network Print Server lets you convert a standard parallel printer into a shared network printer over a 10/100Mbps network. Providing network printing access allows you to share a single printer among multiple network connected computers, while also avoiding the added costs and inconveniences of purchasing printers for each workstation or area.

This compact, lightweight Ethernet print server connects directly to the Centronics port on your printer, for a discreet solution that doesn’t require a cable between your printer and the device - simply connect the device to the network using an RJ45 cable. The ability to position your printer anywhere on the network does away with the need for a dedicated print server PC, saving resources and avoiding performance bottlenecks.

The parallel print server can have you up and running in minutes, using either a remote web-based or Windows based installation wizard. The print server offers broad operating system compatibility and works with a wide variety of parallel printing devices for easy installation into mixed environments, and also supports Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for remote monitoring.

Backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

5,0 su 5 stelle Printer server worked flawlessly after upgrading to new Verizon router
Recensito negli Stati Uniti il 14 marzo 2022
I was able to successfully convert my old workhorse HP laserjet 6P printer into a network printer. Not the simplest installation if you’re not familiar with renaming IP addresses (which I was not), but I followed the directions carefully and was successful in installing it on the first Windows 10 laptop. A network setting on the second laptop prevented installation of the printer, but Startech’s knowledgeable and patient tech support walked me through the process. Good product and excellent tech support.

When it was time to upgrade my Verizon router, I was concerned that I would have to reprogram the device, but the print server worked flawlessly in connecting to the new router. I don’t know if it was necessary, but I turned off the printer until the router was up and running.

5,0 su 5 stelle Beats the -bleep- out of setting up an old PC with a parallel port to be a print server
Recensito negli Stati Uniti il 16 marzo 2020
This is an old StarTech design that just keeps working and working. They do ship a software wizard for some old OSs, but the wizard is completely unnecessary. I plugged my directly into the back of an ancient LaserJet 4, the wall wart into power, and an Ethernet patch cable to my LAN switch.

In his review William R Johnston reminds us the device ships with its Ethernet address fixed at 192.168.0.10. To get this set to something different (I'm using a static address set by my DHCP server) I had to temporally plug the print server directly into a PC using an Ethernet crossover cable, then set my PC's address to something in the 192.168.0.* range. Next, I logged in with a web browser, went to TCP/IP configuration, and set the IP address the way I wanted (in my case using DHCP).

Then I undid all that temporary network stuff and plugged everything into my LAN, told my DHCP service which IP address to use for the print server (since I want static for that). Finally went back to using the web browser to set the print server's name (with the address I told the DHCP server to use). Everything else just happened and it doesn't seem to matter which OS I try to print from... well, except newer Windows machines. MS has gone too far with the security thing and it's a chore to get anything working on a LAN, beyond connecting to the Internet. Anyway, if not an MS operating system just browser the network and there's your print server. Need the right driver locally installed for the printer you have, but the StarTech print server doesn't seem to need a driver. Print just works. Sweet!

Anyway, far easier than setting up an old PC with a parallel port to be a print server. Far less power. It's tiny and fits on the back of your printer. And the only cabling (other than the wall wart) is Ethernet.
