Great little portable stove (bought mine in 2012 in case of power cuts)

Great little portable stove (bought mine in 2012 in case of power cuts)
Really handy gas cylinder camping stove. I got mine in case of occasional UK power cuts, so l can at least have warm drinks and food while waiting for the power to come back on again. Used it several times for exactly this purpose since I bought it in 2012, and it's still going strong. Just remember to use it in a well ventilated room for safety!Easy to use and store (comes in a handy, very robust storage case). Gas cylinders easily available to buy on Amazon too. Comes with very easy to follow instructions. Amazing value for a quality product. 10/10 would recommend

The singular stove is understandably rather off-putting to those of you looking to buy new equipment that will suffice for a camping trip catering to 3 or 4 people. However, for 1 or 2, this is enough and is a great little hob.

I bought this a week before heading out on a camping trip. My first in around 9 years. Understandably I was rusty, and lacking in the appropriate equipment, as well as cautious with what I was spending on what gear. I found this on here on offer for £11 and ended up pleasantly surprised with it. I admittedly didn't expect a lot considering it's simplistic looks and low price point, but the previous reviews to this seemed to disagree with my theories, reviews that turned out to be bang on the money.

Putting aside my terrible cooking skills (I tried to strain pasta with two forks. Stupid, eh?), this stove served perfectly. It provided myself and a close friend of mine with some rather wonderful tasting sausages and bacon, as well as the finest in spaghetti hoops. The gas is easy to load into the side of the stove, and is a task that can be accomplished by anyone over the age of 13 or 14 safely, if supervised by an adult. Not that I'd recommend that as such, it's just that simple. It comes with a fantastically easy to understand set of instructions that allow you to get your stove up and running within 5 or 10 minutes, and the best bit is that the stove and leaflet come packaged in a convenient case, that allows for easy storage!

A top little stove for the price I paid, and at full price too I reckon! Well worth it for small camping parties (unless buying 2 or 3), and newcomers to the holiday style.

Been using these for several years, camping and camper vanning. They are simple no nonsense, easy to use. Stick a canister in, turn the knob, press the button and on comes the burner. Food cooks quick and even and water boils quickly. It can be problematic in wind but the case does a reasonable job at acting as a wind guard. I just can't get over what superb value for money they are. They are built to last and take a good beating but still continue to work flawlessly. The gas strength is easy to control, brilliant. I also like the safety catch that engages when you put back into the box, this ensures that the gas canisters are disengaged. Only niggle is that the gas pressure reduces as the gas canister depletes and they don't tend to last too long. Having said that, the gas canisters are also cheap. Brilliant buy

Bought this several years ago and never used it until now due to financial issues and rising energy prices. Luckily i bought 12 pack of gas cannisters at the time and used it yesterday for the first time and found it very simple to use and extremely efficient. I had to use it indoors despite the safety concerns however i made sure it was in the kitchen near the window further than the minimum 20cm requirement from the walls. Over a meter from the ceiling too and with both windows open and a light i boiled a kettle for two cups of tea quick despite it being on the minimum setting.

I reheated some food i had in the fridge and i am still amazed at how quick and powerful it is. At the time it cost me £13 on sale me thinks. I bought two one to be used at the allotment and one for home emergencies, havent used the other but i found the gas cannisters are cheaper now than they were when i bought mine.

So i will purchase a 24 pack to ensure i have adequate emergency supply especially when energy prices will rise this autumn and winter again. I cant recommend this bit of kit enough you really dont know when you need to heat food and drink especially when you have no money coming in for a while and the electric meter is about to go into emergency credit, so dont forget it just get it !

I bought one a couple years ago as a precaution and not had chance to use it. In the last week we had a power outage which meant no power for about 8 hours, so out it came. Our water is heated by gas boiler so we had no power or hot water. Over the course of the day out of one canister I got the following:

3 large pans full of boiling water - enough to get a bath. Not ideal, but better than nothing.
About same amount, maybe 4 large pans of hot water - enough to do the dishes and clean the kitchen.
A couple of small pans of hot water for tea. On the second morning I also left it in place on the hob and cooked breakfast.

I'd used 1 full can and a small amount from another, so a decent amount. We can get the cans for about £1 each, so pretty good going.

The unit itself is easy to use and solid. Controls feel well built.

The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is that I haven't used it for a long time so not sure about its durability, but other commenters have stated that theirs have lasted.

An update to my review; during the first UK lockdown my oven hob stopped working. I could not get a new one installed as there was an issue with the electric cable. I managed to cook using the portable stove for maybe 3 months and managed ok. I had to tailor meals to suit the single portable hob but I managed just fine and the stove never disappointed. The only drawback is that the pan area is small so I needed to take care with larger pans and if you have kids or animals then definitely do not leave it unattended as pans can be easily knocked off. I realise that it's a portable stove and not designed for cooking main meals in this manner, but better to mention it and be safe.

Anyway, a cracking little stove which kept me going for months. Happy to say there is a new hob now and Stovey is back in his box, ready for his next mission :)

Bought this little unit for use on my boat as its surface area being wide and low is great for stability on the sea, but have also used it many times on the beach. I do have a mini BBQ, but i find this unit far easier to use with a frying pan and certainly far quicker to set up! Another bonus is its so much easier to clean due to its enamel coating and the gas bottle lasts for 4/5 outings. I've never as yet had to turn the flame on full and for the beach, I use the supplied carry case as a wind break! Highly delighted, great price and a fabulous product.
