Great watch but mine had a glitch

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 September 2024Display quality: good - I have uploaded my own background image to display on the screen which is not bad quality.
Looks: I like that the watch is not too bulky. It's a functional size that I'm happy wearing whilst doing exercise.
Accuracy: never had any issues with accuracy of heart rate or number of steps. It's not particularly accurate at measuring swimming - it massively over estimates how many lengths I've swam, even though it asks you to input the length of the pool.
Functionality: there are a lot of sports that you can add to the device. I tend to end up using 'cardio' for almost everything though.
Battery life: easily lasts 3/4 days. The charging cable is not the best and I've had to replace it a couple of times.
Comfort: not too heavy, easy to wear while doing exercise. Much lighter than some other Garmin watches.
Durability: overall fine - the strap did snap once for me, but it's easy to remove and cheap to replace the strap so not a major issue.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 July 2019I have had a number of "fit" watches Microsoft Band - Moto 360 v1 - cheapo sub £30 ones too. The most attractive is the Moto closely followed by this Vivoactive Garmin. It beats all the others hands down on battery life and washes away the competition with Garmin's excellent Connect software.
It's light on the wrist and not bulky at all and looks solidly built - not plasticky.
The rubber watch band is just about presentable but functions as it should keeping the watch secure on my wrist and causes no skin reaction even after several days non-stop wear.
The item arrived looking good as new as described - I could not could not find a blemish on it! Battery was charged to 60% out-of-the-box and completed 100% within a couple of hours. So far I have had 3 full days wear from its first charge and the battery widget is reporting 4 days remaining.
Since unboxing there were 3 firmware updates over the same number of days just taking a minute or two to download and reboot - not sure what they did in terms of added functionality as it's so new to me and I'm still getting used to its functions.
The watch faces are customisable being able to add a data field. I simply added the day and date so far. Setting backlight at 20% makes the face easily visible in strong sunlight or darkness. The display although small is perfectly legible and is not pixilated despite another review I have seen.
The screen is responsive, responding accurately to taps or strokes. The menu scrolls smoothly.
I use a Garmin Edge 1000 for my cycling and this watch can control Garmin Vario front and rear lights as a stand alone unit in addition to cycle ride tracking.
The downsides are the screen probably needs a scratch protector and the electrical charging connector is open to dirt ingress on the wrist an needs a cover. I think Garmin should have provided these in the box.
I dropped 1 star for the sleep tracking feature as I found it once and was blown away by its detail - deep, rem, light sleep etc. but I'm blowed if I can find it again in all these menus.
Still I'm well impressed and would recommend this refurbished unit as excellent value.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2022Where to start?
Firstly it arrived in Garmin box even though it is ‘ renewed’. I stuck it onto charge and left it for a few mins. You need to download the Garmin connect app and to get the best out of it you will need to pair it to a smart phone, It guides you through the set-up. This only took a few minutes.
Battery usage is slightly more than my old Fitbit. The GPS works well and only takes about 30 secs to pick up signal and that is under trees! The GPS does chew up the battery a bit.
The watch syncs easily to the watch and the data is really interesting. There’s more than enough there for my purposes.
You can download watch faces, maps etc There’s a separate app from Garmin for all that. You will need to wait until the watch updates itself before you can do that but don’t panic, it does sort itself out. Mine updated itself as soon as I unplugged the charger.
I guess it depends on what you want a watch to tell you. If you want to know distance, pace, laps, calories, stress levels, etc then this is great. I love the maps with data to show which bit I struggled on the most.
The sleep info is good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolle Uhr mit einer Schwäche
