Implements Of The Model Maker: A Captivating Scottish Crime Thriller (DS Thomas Hutton Crime Series Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 476 ratings

A COMING STORM. A KILLER UNLEASHED.

A body is found in a park in the middle of Glasgow. Arms and legs bound by strong, thin wire, small cuts made in the neck and the groin, arteries severed. The murder was surgical, the methods used fastidious and precise. Four days later, another body, another woman, a different park, the murder committed with the same surgical precision.

The city, slowly trying to emerge from the throes of a long, cold, deadly winter, is thrown into panic, and officers are called from all outlying stations to the centre. DS Hutton is given speculative leads to follow, people who might have known both victims.

And so it is that he comes to interview Dr Crispin Thebes. Retired art dealer, a man who sits at his workshop window by the Clyde, making model ships from scratch. Exact replicas, made with immaculate care. Surgical. Fastidious. Precise…

"An underrated writer with an eccentric, blisteringly satirical voice.” SUNDAY EXPRESS

Scottish Field once described Douglas Lindsay as “a master of comic crime.” Readers should note this is because he writes comedy crime novels, not because he murders people while dressed as a clown.

He is the author of thirty-seven novels. His first book became Coen Brothers-esque film comedy, THE LEGEND OF BARNEY THOMSON, starring Robert Carlyle and Emma Thompson.

His series include:

• The DS Hutton & DI Buchan Glasgow crime novels

• Barney Thomson, nine comic novels and several novellas

• Detective Inspector Westphall – ‘Establishes Lindsay as someone deserving to be spoken of as a master.’ Shots Magazine

He lives in Somerset, England

Another terrific Tom Hutton novel, not as much drinking and sex as there usually is, but none the worst for that. Have another couple of his books to be getting on with and can't wait for them. Highly recommended.

Another gem from the pen of Mr Lindsay. The inimitable DS Hutton in fine form with more twists than a curly wurly. Never fails to satisfy.

Read this far too quickly..and I rationed myself. A few pages at a time, trying to make it last. Even though I really wanted to devour it in one sitting. Sigh. If only the writing could out pace my reading I'd be a very happy woman.

No way I'm going to put a spoiler in here so I'll just say....

The "where-did-that-come-from moment"... I couldn't make sense of it. Thought the author was off his game... Shame on me! It wasn't supposed to make sense, until the end. You'll have to read the book to know what I mean here.

    More please!!

Once again the author delivers. DS Hutton is the modern day copper we all need in our lives bringing the kind of satire and dysfunction to his profession we can only admire

As Hutton goes about his business of being a detective who has put alcohol in custody, murder goes on. Fantastic writing from Douglas Lyndsay once again, with Hutton's inner narrative threading through and occasional bursts of unexpected hilarity.

Read to the end in order to assess how bad it would get! So much unnecessary swearing, long winded sentences, pages filled out with trivia. Unrealistic characters and poor plot. Dreadful read!

Another cracking read. The author knows how to keep the reader engaged. The character development is sublime. Already looking forward to book seven in the series.

Really disliked this book, it is rare miss for Lindsey, but miss it is. Was a slugfest just getting through it. Seems about 90% of the book was spent aimlessly wandering around in Hutton's mind in pursuit of nothing. Just combing through his whys and wherefore and maybes. Little energy is actually spent on the murders. I buy a crime book because it's about the crime and its solving not the mental musings of the detective. If this is what we can expect from future Hutton books, I'll take a miss.
