Cheap ladder but for an extra bit of height it does the job.

Cheap ladder but for an extra bit of height it does the job.
My wife and I have always planned to get one of these ladders however over the years we never thought it was needed...until we found the beginnings of a tree growing on the side of our house! So we needed one asap.Having seen this 2.6m ladder on amazon - we went for it.THE REVIEW:The packaging itself is just a basic plain cardboard box but it does feel secure and keeps the ladder free from any knocks or bumps whilst in transit. It arrived within a couple of days with no trouble.Once you have unboxed it you are quite simply ready to go. No assembly is required, you literally just pull apart the Velcro strap, put it where you want, extend it and climb. I was a bit put off however that it states it was “Manufactured by Bill”, however I tried not to let that phase me. The build of the ladder itself states it is aluminium with an anodised finish, whether that is true or not I cant say but it does feel fairly strong. I would have no problem or fear of climbing it and believe me Im scared of heights. Each section of the ladder has some hard plastic grips at the side and each step itself has indents for extra foot grip. The very bottom (underneath) the plastic grips are rugged for extra stability on the floor too. When collapsed the ladder is approx 72cm in height, 44cm in width and 8cm in depth then once fully extended it has a height of 2.6metres. The ladder when collapsed is not extremely heavy, I can easily lift it/carry it with one hand but it does have a bit of weight to it.To adjust the ladder in terms of height you pull up both sides and keep going until it is fully extended, with each step locking into place. It does take a bit of getting use to putting your trust into a few simple “locking catches” but Ive been up and down it a lot now and so far there has been no trouble. When on the ladder myself I feel quite safe, it does bend/move a little but that is to be expected. To collapse the ladder you dismount from it and then push each clip on both sides of a foothold towards eachother which releases the internal lock and allows the ladder to fold in on itself step by step. (There is a lock to release for each step). Quite easy to do however this is the part that concerned me. I had already seen reviews stating about getting fingers trapped/hurt when doing this and I can see why. Ive demonstrated this in my video but basically as you start to collapse each foot hold, the first one will come down about half way and then you release the lower catches (on the step below) to continue it lowering but be warned because as it lowers for the second half (of each individual step) it comes down very fast and takes no prisoners. Then as each step is collapsed in on itself by the time you do the last one there is a considerable amount of weight coming down from above so please watch your fingers.OVERALL:For a cheap and cheerful ladder it does the job. If i bought one of these that extended up to the top of my house then I would of been sending it back and saving up for a “proper one” as I don’t think I would feel that safe or secure on it. But for going in and out of the loft or maybe de-weeding some out of reach places at around 13-14ft then I’m more than satisfied with this. It collapses to a nice and “easy to hide” size, seems quite sturdy and for the price I cant really complain. So if you need a small ladder then this is ok. But if you are terrified of heights and/or are not too confident on ladders then for your own security maybe you should invest in a more expensive “official” one that you can trust.

Folds away well as long as you follow the instructions, you shouldn’t catch your fingers. Fits in a much smaller space when starting with.

I think it's important, when considering this product, to look at the pricetag. It's a 2.5m/5m ladder that collapses to the size of a suitcase, for just over a hundred quid. OBVIOUSLY it's not going to be as sturdy as a riveted aluminium box ladder or as light as a fiberglass ladder that's four times the price.

That said, it's plenty sturdy, and you get a lot of versatility for your purchase. Just it's important, far more than with a more normal ladder, to read understand and follow all the instructions.
    - the unused rungs go at the bottom. If you put them at the top, the sections can extend while you're stood on the A-frame, potentially collapsing the whole thing
    - ideally, use the strap to secure the unused rungs: as well as adding some safety, this lets you pick up and carry the fully-unfolded ladder without it extending on you
    - collapsing the ladder has a much greater potential for injury than a non-telescopic ladder: keep your hands completely out of the gaps between the rungs when you're operating the locks. There is a safety feature where the last two inches of retraction are done by the locks on the rung below, this can save you losing a finger, but don't rely on it. Best way to collapse it is to lower each rung gently whilst it's in the "I" configuration, if it's in the "A" configuration you're having to collapse both sides simultaneously. If you do have to collapse it in the "A" configuration, spread the feet apart an inch or two, the friction will stop the segments slamming down.

    Good parts:
    - almost everything
    - especially how it's a gigantic ladder in a tiny space
    Bad parts:
    - the documentation, and even the tutorial videos are not particularly good
    - major potential for injury if you don't know what you're doing
    - the retaining strap is useless. Replace it with a quality luggage strap
    - the feet are also dust-covers that prevent grit getting into the sliding mechanism, but they're only friction fit and quite easy to knock off as you're positioning the ladder
    - the 2.5m version is pushing the limits of "man-portable". I would not like to have to move it more than 50m or so without a trolley or motor vehicle, and its telescopic nature means a two-man lift has the potential to turn into Chucklevision.

I have put a 1 star review due to delay of parcel which is arrived finally.
Used it yesterday to set up my outdoor cam.
It’s quite easy to use and not heavy. I shrinked the ladder to the smallest size and carry it everywhere by picking the attached bucket strap. Overall, not bad so far

Dead easy to use, feels very bouncy when fully extended but no worse than my neighbour's wooden ladder. You'll need a stomach for heights!

Can be a bit tricky to handle at first but you soon get used to the weight of it, it's easy to move along the gutters once fully extended.

The rungs are pretty far apart, which if you're short might be a problem, I'm 6ft3 so pretty good with long stepping.

Protip: the bend in the ladder means that the top will move downwards a few centimetres as you climb it. Just think about that when you're positioning the ladder. I wedged it up underneath the gutter so that it was leaning as far up the fascia board as possible.
