Excellent clarity, sound stage and bass extension.
These are the best headphones I've ever owned. I have good equipment to pair with these including Chord Mojo 2 and the Chord Poly. I run all this through Roon, BubbleUPNP, Qobuz and Wavelet apps. It might seem like a lot but it gets me the best quality sound I can get. These headphones sound amazing, be it heavy metal, electronic or orchestral and everything in between. These are also closed back so I can go for walks, commute and even cycle with these on and nothing from the outside gets in. So, the big thing for most people is the price point. I got these on a discount so it might be wise to stick these on your wish list for a while and hold out for a better offer. The amazon.co.uk price is a little higher than it should be as you can get these cheaper elsewhere if you shop around. But, I got these from amazon.co.uk at a good price so it is possible to bag yourself a bargain. Just one final though, Focal are a great company that make excellent audio products and they have been doing it for decades. Hope this helps you in your considerations.

Build quality is superb, sound is a bit particular so it might suit some tastes but not others. My experience is that for vocal heavy and instrumental genres is fantastic, for more bass heavy genres might be a tad too thin for some. Overall, absolutely a must buy at this reduced price.

Also, changing pads will severely impact sound, so be careful what you choose and experiment.

Bought for listening when incoming and/or outgoing noise would be a problem. The construction features necessary to minimise disturbance result in good thermal as well as acoustic insulation so the 'phones can get a little warm around the ears in a warm environment after an hour or so, but I can live with that. The clamping pressure on my head was just right for stability without discomfort. Sound quality is good for a closed-back design although inevitably not as good as would be expected from an open-back design. Build quality excellent. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

I havew recently purchased the Focal Elegia Headphones, and I have to say although I had to purchase a longer length connection wire as basic one with pack was too small at 1.2 metre. They are a superb sounding set of headphones, and I can only praise the manufacturing company for the quality, it really is exceptional.

Amazon Representatives who helped me in my quest with sourcing additional wires also deserve praise for their expertise and patience with me. Thank youy

Decided to get these to add to my collection at the price of £350 for a headphone that was originally around £900 a few years back, thought it was too good an opportunity to miss before all the discontinued stock is gone for ever.

These headphones are well built from quality materials, plastics and metal with a nice padded headband although the inner colour will Iam sure discolour over the course of time although I never had these long enough to confirm that.

Dual 3.5mm connections makes running these balanced easy if you need to. Very easy to drive with low impedance and high sensitivity although running these through a dedicated headphone amp / dac (Fiio K7 in my case) would definitely help these.

First off Iam a firm believer in burn in and I did run these overnight at volume and during the day for a solid 5 days taking into consideration the recommended time period from Focal in the included literature.

These headphones are comfortable and look really nice on with their black and chrome accents but Iam afraid that is where my praise ends.

I have owned many headphones the 600 series from Sennheiser, Hifiman , AKG, Beyerdnamic and most of the main players but these are not up to the asking price of £350 let alone the original £900.

The sound when I compare it to my current closed back reference the Beyerdynamic DT1770 (superb set of headphones) is muffled and in no way comparable to the pristine quality of the DT1770, the bass sounds quite bloated and very mid bass focused with little sub bass extension, mids are quite forward but sound veiled as though the singers are singing through fog. Highs are not really clear or focused and imaging is at best average.

My DT1770s in comparison are in a totally different league, crystal clear, smooth with a hint of luxurious warmth and a killer tight detailed bass with sub bass extension that goes on forever, pin point imaging and wide sound stage for a closed back headphone and sweet but extremely detailed treble from its Tesla driver.

I wanted to love this headphone and I did expect great things but alas it came no where near my expectations.

Finally a big shout out to Amazon and Sevenoaks hifi sound and vision who accepted my return no quibble, returned these on a Saturday via their Evri parcel service and I was refunded on the following Thursday 4 days later, top service!

5.0 out of 5 stars Open backed sound in closed back headphones!
Reviewed in Canada on 16 June 2023
I am a bit of a headphone junkie, and currently have for example Hifiman Sundaras, 4xx, monoprice m1060, audio Technica ath m50x, koss kph 30i, and more. The problem is that the majority of my headphones are open back, due to that being my preference. I needed a closed back set for work, so I read reviews for a set with lots of detail and a little soundstage. I haven't been able to find a closed back headphone with a wide soundstage before, until now. The Elegias have the most open sound of any closed back headphones I've ever heard. Sublime detail, punch and decently wide soundstage make these a great value proposition at their lower price. Fantastic mids, clear treble and enough bass to make every genre enjoyable. I recommend oratory's parametric eq settings to bring the most out of these, and also getting a balanced cable. The cable that comes with these is hot garbage.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's in the details...
Reviewed in the United States on 2 May 2023
...and these headphones allow you to hear the details in the music. Compared to other headphones I've owned, I can hear minute, natural details in recordings that I had not detected before, to include more detail of the attack - the bow moving across violin strings or the strum of a guitar. They are fairly comfortable - large, but not too heavy. The overall appearance is one of a high-quality, well-built product. Though they sound fairly good right out of the box, they require a lot of burn-in time to truly shine. After several hundred hours of listening, they now sound excellent with an almost flat eq on my Hiby R3 Saber digital audio player, as opposed to a more V-shaped eq when less broken in. While the sound of these cans is relatively even across the frequency range, I would characterize the presentation as lively as opposed to a more laid-back sound like some Sennheiser headphones, for instance. Music sounds dynamic and detailed like a seat in the middle of the performers, vice a seat in the audience watching the performers at a distance, as with some other headphones. Bass is solid but balanced with the rest of the frequency range; thankfully it does not bleed into the lower midrange. These handle recordings of full orchestral sound with no problem. Interestingly, despite their relatively low impedance, they benefit from being run by an amplifier - it adds a touch more detail and 'oomph' to the bass. Another plus to these headphones is that you can find fairly inexpensive replacement earpads on ebay, and these are easy to switch out on the headphones. They have a bit more sound bleed than other closed-back headphones because the wavy Focal logo on each earphone is actually a small open space. In my opinion, the small amount of sound bleed is worth it because it provides some natural airiness and space to the soundstage that is lacking in many other closed-back headphones. Overall, I'm very pleased with the value of this product.
