This is, hands down, the best hair straightener I've ever owned, and I've had many. I've had a 1" Chi for a few years now - it lasted one year before the wires frayed at the base, and after some soldering and lots of electrical tape, it made it another year before it just couldn't handle it anymore. So I was in the market for a new hair straightener, and I stalked Amazon reviews for a week or so before I made my decision (note: I've got this crazy thick curly hair, so it's important to have a high-powered tool that can get the job done relatively quickly. Nobody wants to be straightening their hair for an hour). I stumbled upon this little gem, and read all of the reviews before deciding to take the leap of faith on a product I had never hear of, and I am SO glad that I did!
The Bio-Ionic has good grips on the sides for your fingers so your hands aren't sliding all over the place when you're getting the hard to reach areas (like the back of your head), and it has grips on the actual plates themselves to keep your hair in place. I was worried these grips might pull too hard, or that my hair would get caught in them, but this wasn't the case at all! It didn't hurt me at all, and it really helped to keep all of the hair lined up so that it evenly straightened. That was a huge plus.
Another thing that I really liked about this particular straightener is the adjustable heat settings. Some straighteners (like the Chi) don't have the adjustable setting, so if you have really fine hair you would be damaging your hair more than necessary. With the Bio-Ionic, you don't have that problem because you can set the heat as low or as high as you'd like. This thing has the ability to get SUPER hot SUPER fast, but even with my really thick curly hair, I still only set it at about 350 or 360 out of 400 degrees.
Now, with the Chi it usually took me anywhere from 25-30 minutes to really straighten my hair well. The Bio-Ionic, though, has cut a few minutes off of that and now it only takes about 20. It doesn't seem like much, but trust me, those few minutes are precious in the morning!
I highly, HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone in the market for a new flat-iron. It is better than the Chi (which I never thought I would say...I swore by them for years!), and I'm sure I'll be a loyal customer for years. Give this a shot - you won't regret it!
