Carlisle Magic Plus Paddle

Rugged Dependability, Proven Performance

The Carlisle Magic Plus kayak paddle has an efficient and powerful blade design for touring; or for paddlers who spend a lot of time on the water and want a lighter paddle. The balanced asymmetrical blades reduce torque and minimize wrist fatigue. Slight spooning in the blades grab more water, providing the power needed when paddling a typical 10-to 12-foot recreational kayak. The wound fiberglass shaft provides a sweet compromise between the stiffness needed for a strong paddle stroke and the flex needed to reduce stress on your joints.

Built to Keep Going

The first Carlisle paddles were created more than 30 years ago with local guide and livery companies in mind. Our paddles were built to deliver the core strength and durability that expert guides need. Today, Carlisle offers outstanding recreational kayak paddles and oars in a variety of materials and designs-each suiting the needs and conditions individual paddlers face.

  • Durable and lightweight glass-filled polypropylene blades
  • Asymmetrical, slightly curved blade shape for smooth, efficient strokes
  • Lightweight, fiberglass shaft has ovalized hand grip area
  • Efficient design produces consistent, steady stroke
  • Two-piece construction allows inline or offset blades
  • Available in 220-, 230-, 240-,and 250-centimeter lengths

Paddle

Long-Distance Efficiency

The well-balanced asymmetrical blade design on the Magic Plus reduces torque and flutter so you'll feel less wrist fatigue and can stay on the water longer. The slightly spooned shape moves more water to efficiently propel your kayak through the water.

Compared to aluminum, the fiberglass shaft has a warm touch in cool weather and is cool when it's hot.

Easy Break Down

When you're done for the day, the Magic Plus breaks down into two pieces for easy transport and storage. You can also use the no-fail push-button take down to feather the blades at 60 degrees for right- or left-handed control.

Great paddle, needs some work.
4 out of 5 stars
Great paddle, needs some work.
I paddle mostly in lakes. Most are small, but a few are larger with slightly choppy water. I either go out in an Intex K-1 or a West Marine 1, both inflatables. I picked up the 230cm length Carlisle (orange!) paddle set and am decently pleased with how everything has turned out.First off, I am 5'10" 145 lb's and the kayaks I use are both around 24-30ish inches wide. If I could go back, I would have picked up the 240cm length, but note that this far exceeds the general height test of wrapping your finger over the tip of the paddle. I like shallow strokes though, so take that as you will. The paddle is light for the materials, though still on par with my West Marine paddles. There's no play when the two halves of the shaft are connected together, which was a big concern of mine. The thing is extremely solid and works as well as a one-piece paddle. Orange plastic is beautiful and contrasts really well with the water aesthetically.I have two gripes about this paddle set, which I've already remedied but must note.1) Finish quality. There was a large sharp ding on the shaft right where my hand would go. This cut into my hand the first time I went out, and I had to come back in to file the groove down. I have since put rubberized grips over it, but it was not pleasant to know that the paddle had such defects on it right out of the box.2) The water blocking rings are terrible. The rubber is flimsy and does not sit flush on the shaft, letting water leak right through. I picked up a new heavy duty set from a sporting goods store and replaced them immediately.Overall I'm fairly pleased with the quality, but had to remove a star due to the damage and oversight of the water blocking rings.

This is an excellent glass shaft paddle at a very good value. I'm a recreational kayaker that gets on the water a few times a month and have one other glass shaft paddle. My other paddle, by West Marine has a locking mechanism for adjustable blade pitch, which I never use. The Carlisle only has a single pitch position where both blades are on the same plane. This is actually the easiest and best way for me, since assembly is straightforward and quick utilizing a spring-lock button. The fitment of the shafts of the Carlisle are smooth and solid, very precise, and no wobble or play. Nothing much 'magic' about it, just a very good paddle. I prefer the fiberglass to aluminum by a long shot.
The blades are very tough, as I found out on a tight turning river in fast water when I got a blade stuck between obstacles. It bent way over and bounced right back with no damage.
One thing I do recommend, and have on both my paddles are the 'Yakgrips'. A note on the Yakgrips; they tend to ride up or down on the shaft, and my way of securing them is to get a good, large, tie wrap on both sides of the grip, tighten them as tight as you can, and trim the excess with a razor knife to prevent a sharp edge of plastic from scratching your hands.

The paddles are very well made and have no play when connected. I have used them for 100+ hours and have not found one negative thing about them. They are light and have 3 different settings that can accommodate different paddling styles. This is the second pair we have bought, one 230 cm and also a 220 cm. I believe they will go the distance. Oh yeah, the wife even attempted to crush one by accidentally shutting the garage door on it. The paddle was in an old fish tank and was standing upright directly underneath the garage door. The garage door was shut on it 3 times before I realized what was happening (because the paddle was bowing). I went and looked at the paddle that was in perfect condition. It took a beating and still paddles as it was brand new. The shaft did not permanently bend and the paddle itself never showed long-term signs of being bent. Pretty good if you ask me. Check the warehouse deals as I believe I got one pair for around $60.00 free shipping.

Been paddling with this brand for 15 years. Needed another paddle and our local store changed ownership and told me only if I special order it; wait for awhile for it to come in; and quoted a high price. Got this Paddle in two day at a great price!!! So much for supporting local

This paddle feels very sturdy, the joint has no wiggle to it and you can feel and hear the vacuum as you pull it apart. Paddles and brakes well. I would deduct points for the drip guards, which feel cheap and flimsy compared to my other paddles, except they function perfectly despite my complaints. They are easy to adjust, which is a plus, but I worry about long-term performance. That's my only gripe. Definitely a good value for it's price range, and it's apparent durability has given me added peace of mind on long solo excursions where I really can't afford to crack a paddle shaft.

I love this paddle! It is lightweight, sturdy, and very comfortable to use. There are 3 holes which allow you to adjust the angles of the blades. I have it set to the middle hole, but a much taller friend tried it and put it on the first hole which put the blades at a better angle. I've used this several times in the ocean and it gave me plenty of power without any blisters. Also, I stayed much drier than with other paddles. Well suited for beginner and intermediate paddlers. This is a great deal for the money - enjoy!!

The paddle is great I ordered two Carlisle Magic Plus 240cm sunrise. They look great, the wrapped fiberglass shaft is strong and comfortable to hold. The ovalized hand grip area makes the paddle very user friendly and comfortable for long trips. A spooned/curved blade makes paddling very smooth and efficient. They arrived quickly with no damage. I cracked open the first box to check things out...all good. Opened the other box and it was a 220 paddle with Cherry Red blades. A little more attention to detail by the shipping people would be appreciated. We were gearing up for a trip so I quickly went on Amazon to see if I could order another and get it in time. The product page said two day shipping... great! Went through purchased another got the confirmation email..."shipping date unknown"!!!! REALLY!! 15 days later the paddle arrived, I had already gone and returned from my trip.

The weight and feel of this paddle is super. It has a nice balance and the button works well for easy shifting of angle. Only complain is the hole was drilled a little too big for the button and so shifts when you paddle which is disappointing. I suspect in time it will fill up with gunk and be fine like so many others i have had.
