SOLVED !: Weak microphone problem.

SOLVED !: Weak microphone problem.
This is a great FM transmitter, but it was almost useless for phone calls when it is plugged into the dash powerpoint or cigarette lighter. The unit's microphone is 38" away from my mouth when I'm driving when it is plugged into the powerpoint below the ashtray. And in between the mike and my mouth is the sound of the cold/hot air blowing from my dash vents. So no one could understand a word I said, unless I turned off the motor and yelled.SOLUTION: I moved this Roav FM transmitter to my sunvisor, so now it and its microphone is only 9" away from my mouth. I did this by buying from Amazon an $11 "SCCKE 14AWG Premium Pure Copper 12V 24V Car Cigarette Lighter Socket Extension Cord, 6ft " and used it to move the ROAV fm transmitter to tucked above my sun visor. The extension cord is plugged into the powerpoint, then routed around a phone holder and then, with the ROAV unit plugged into the other end , placed above my sun visor (see photos). It's not really pretty, because the extension cord is so thick (it's designed to handle 20 watts) that I can't tuck it the top and side moldings and so out of sight. But that's a small price for having the microphone now 9" from my mouth when I driving. Whoever I'm talking to now hears me clear as can be, even if I have the windows down and am going 65 mph. I've been using it for 10 months now and I got one for a friend. When she talks to me now with this setup, her voice is crystal clear at my end coming through my audio system. and she says she hears me clearly as well. The exposed extension cord is not pretty, but I got used to it fast in exchange for a usable clear microphone for a true hands-free phone conversation while I'm driving. I had tried an expensive Jabra unit microphone unit that clips onto the sunvisor, but it was big and not as clear as the Roav. I even contacted Roav customer service and asked them to design a separate small microphone that would clip to the visor and either bluetooth or be corded into a Roav FM transmitter. No response yet. I think I might end up taking one apart, and see if I can remove the microphone and solder it onto 10' of light gauge so that it will tuck under the molding, like on my dash cam.

Ok, I've got to admit that Anker does things right. I had an issue with a speaker a while back and they came to me with one intent...to make it right with me, and they did!!! So, with my past experience with Anker I did not hesitate to try their Bt FM Transmitter for my Jeep Wrangler. My Jeep, being an early 2003 model did not have Bt connectivity as OE equipment. This past year I have gotten back to listening to the music I grew up on back in the 70's and 80's. After using an Anker Boost speaker in the Jeep to stream music I decided that I wanted to try streaming through the Jeep's sound system. Enter Anker's Bt FM Transmitter.

When I saw the transmitter (and the price!!!) it was a no-brainer for me....my brain said "ORDER IT!" I ordered it.

But, I have a problem with my Jeep. The sub-woofer is rotten/blown/falling-apart/kaput/etc.,. It's got more snaps and crackles than Rice Krispie cereal has.....really!!! Anyhow, I decided that if this little cigarette lighter plug-in Bt gizmo worked that I'd go ahead and go through the expense and trouble of replacing the sub-woofer. It all depended on whether the Bt transmitter worked....or not.

As it turns out I have a replacement sub-woofer ordered and will be installing it next week. The Bt transmitter works great. It sounds good, even though the speakers aren't at their best due to having to adjust the treble and bass along with the balance to get things half-way decent....I can't wait to hear the system once I've got the sub-woofer replaced! The Roav Smartcharger pairs very easily with my old iPhone-6. It is very simple to use. Find a clear frequency on the radio and tune the Roav to that frequency. It's about as easy to get going as it is to over-eat at the Golden Crane buffet!!! (GRIN)

I don't know how long it will last, but for the price if I get a year or two out of it I'll feel I get my money's worth out of it (naturally I hope it lasts 20 years, but... :) ). With two USB charging ports it handles phone charging and whatever. There's even a voice that tells you when you first start up that it's trying to pair up...then tells you that pairing was successful!!! Shux, this thing's smarter than my oldest sister (but really, that isn't saying much but it is pretty doggone smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!) :)

If you're looking for a Bt connection for your vehicle this one will do the trick!!!! It works great for me!!!

UPDATE!!!!! I replaced my subwoofer and WOW!!!!! what a difference it makes. Tickled pink with the ROAV FM Transmitter!!!!

I am very pleased with my purchase of this product! The car I drive on a daily basis is an old Chevy Blazer, and it has no AUX input (let alone Bluetooth). I bought this, devising to try my luck one last time to see if I would finally get a decent quality product, and I hit the jackpot! This little thing has great audio quality and is extremely easy to set up. You just find a static-filled station, plug in the SmartCharge thing into the cigarette lighter, press the middle button, connect your phone via Bluetooth, and adjust the SmartCharge’s numbers to be that of the static-filled station you found. You are then able to use your car like a Bluetooth speaker!

Pros: easy to use, great build quality, great sound quality, charges devices fast, will automatically connect to your phone if you have Bluetooth turned on and your phone was the last device to connect to it

Cons: there is only one, and this could be a dealbreaker for some: when you are using this device, my car’s speakers have emitted a very, very, very high pitched noise. This noise is so shrill, I doubt any average person over the age of 30 can hear it. However, I have encountered this problem with every single one of the devices I’ve tested that work in a similar fashion to this, and this particular device has the least noticeable noise (it is barely noticeable when no music is playing. When music is playing, it is almost impossible to hear).

Overall: I would definitely recommend this product, as it is the best one I’ve found to date, and even though it was the best, it was also the cheapest one I have bought! So unless you want to try your luck with something else, this is the product I would recommend!

Update from 3 to 4 stars: original comments still below
I have used this a lot and it works wonderfully for my intended purpose. I wanted a device that would allow be to stream music from my phone (Pixel 4XL) to my aux input in my older vehicle (2010 Honda Odyssey) while charging at the same time. This works perfectly for that purpose. The sound is wonderful.

As a bonus, it will also charge my phone OR stream music over FM to my radio in my other car with *OK sound quality. However, it will not stream to FM and charge the phone at the same time. I have tried this in multiple cars and the problem is the same in each.

This is a definite 5 star if you only want to stream through the AUX port and charge your phone. It is a three star or worse if you want to use if for other applications though. I would buy it again since I mainly use it with the AUX port. When I have to use the FM it is nice to have it I just can't charge the phone and use that at the same time which is a minor annoyance for occasional usage.

*The sound quality through FM is about the same as other devices I have used. It has a little static but not bad at all. I was perfectly happy with the FM quality and thought it was very good until I tried the AUX input which is darn near perfect.)

    Original:
I received this yesterday so this is based on limited experiences.
I loved it when I plugged it in and it worked great as a charger.
I loved it when I set up the Bluetooth connection and it was very simple.
I loved the sound quality using Bluetooth and the FM transmitter.
Then I plugged in the charging cable and the unit powered off.
I tried to set it up again leaving the charging cable connected but it would not connect.
It has a 3.5mm Aux out jack on the side. I have not tried it yet but I will soon and will update.
I have not tried it in a different vehicle nor have I tried much trouble shooting so this could be something to do with the vehicle or it could be user error, perish the though.
I will try it again later today or tomorrow and adjust the review accordingly. At best, it is disappointing that after everything worked so great individually using it all at once is not as simple.

Reviewed in Australia on August 19, 2022
I brought this from a review it does everything the review says it would and so has awesome sound quality, the review said that it does take a while to connect with blue tooth but that it had good quality bluetooth and transmission so I figured that was the most important to me that it sounded good and it does!!! It also does take a little while to connect Lol :) I was surprised at the size it looks like a monster in pics but its fairly compact so that was good too. Oh the only fault I can find is if you want to play the radio its better to unplug it as it sets up a bit of interference with stations close to the frequency your chosen. Im guess thats because of the strong signal. So ok thats two little things for Awsome Sound also I put it in a Falcon AU with top of the line sound system I actually love the way it sounds. Anyways hope this helps anyone out there that doesnt know what to choose

Does exactly what I bought it for and is very easy to use. Have had very occasional and fairly minor static noise when near stuff like power lines and construction sites, but nothing to really complain about. Especially when considering the fact that this unit comes with a headphone jack you can use to connect to your stereo rather than the FM transmitter. It's pretty good!

It functions amazingly, and if you want to have two cars or radios playing at the same time, it’s possible as the range on this little device is great. The only problem is that it doesn’t automatically connect to the last paired device, you have to go into Bluetooth settings and connect it yourself every time. Other than that, the sound is amazing and the microphone does pretty well.

Easy to set up. Great sound quality - no static. Automatically connects to iPhone. Call function - pressing the phone button is supposed to answer / end call, but for me it always ends the call. To answer a call, I need to swipe on my phone. Call sound quality for the person on the other end of the call is good - they can tell I’m in the car but my voice is clear.
