What's so special?

What's so special?
So I purchased this as a crafter, not a traveler that needs to press clothing. That "sewing, quilting, crafting" portion of the item title. And I have to say, I'm not impressed for a handful of reasons.- I find this iron incredibly awkward to hold. I have small hands, but with even the slightest of length of nails, I hit the lower base and put pressure on my nail bed (on my four fingers, not my thumb).- I was brought up with steam pressing even if it is "wrong" and this thing leaks like a sieve. If you have the habit of tipping an iron up, you're going to get splattered with hot water leaking out the back. And forget about hanging this up via the trivet's loop. Water will pour out when it's cold. It's reduced when it's less than half full, but then I have to fill it more often and defeats the purpose of the size of the tank.- I've noticed that the few times I've used this, let it cool and wrapped the cord up, the cord clip on the plug leaves marks on the cord. Marks in and of themselves don't bother me, but it's concerning how easily it happens. What happens if it gets pinched or a child takes fabric scissors to it? The marks do not fill me with confidence that this iron is going to stand up to some long term use.Long story short: Does it work? Yes. It's an iron. Pretty hard to screw that up. Would I buy it again? Not a chance. I don't care how many times it's been recommended in quilt shops and online. For this price, I didn't expect to have the problems I have with it and I look forward to finding my other cheap-o $10 travel iron. I'll just buy a trivet for that. Overall, it's probably useful for the people travelling that have to make sure liquids are emptied out but I don't see a need for it to be in my craft room.

PERFECTION. I use a hot hot hot iron because I’m too impatient to wait 3-5 seconds for a good press. I’ve had many travel irons. Particularly the one w collapsing handle that permanently collapsed on 3 irons, This Oliso is the hottest of hot irons on the #2 setting. I always used highest level of heat which would be 3. It’s comfortable for osteoarthritis hands but would be happier if it weighed less like the cheap black.decker. Iron is a super smooth Teflon n the iron glides over your fabric. I don’t intend to use water as I’d be turning iron off n on all day. Take time to read directions. The settings on the iron r difficult for 73 yr old eyes to see intend to use a marker. I also got a matching case. Be careful. The one w mesh in top fits the oliso perfectly One drawback is that it isn’t an auto shutoff, but sometimes the auto shutoff is a pain. I just changed out my extension cord n just power ET off

I bought this iron just over a year ago. The temperature setting dial has always felt a bit wonky to me (it wobbled), but I chalked it up to my never having an Oliso before. Also, the steam feature never quite worked - water just dripped out the steam holes. But I rarely needed steam so just lived with it.

Three weeks ago the temp dial just began spinning freely and the iron stopped heating up. I contacted Customer Service and got an email response in less than 2 hours. "Emma" wrote back. She asked for a description of what the iron was doing and a short (10-15 second) video. Again, only 2 hours later, she sent me a postage-paid label and asked me to ship her the defective iron. A replacement iron was shipped and is waiting for me at home today.

Wow! In this day and age, to have excellent client care like this is truly amazing. I can't say enough about Emma and Oliso for taking care of my problem! Oliso has a customer for life :)

Like that it’s small but gets really hot when needed. Only thing is I wish it was cordless since I use in my craft room and have so many corded things already. Love the color and the plate to cover and also set it on.

Received the first iron but, after a few days of using, I realized that the steam function was not working. Emailed Oliso, received a reply within 24 hours but no suggestion in the response corrected the steam problem. I returned the iron via Amazon and received a new one the next day. Thankfully, it works properly.

So far, here's what I like:
The size is wonderful when handling the small pieces for children's garments.
The steam feature is gentle but effective.
The silicone mat is great and I like the fact that the iron can be left on it between uses.

    What I'm unsure about:
The price is hefty for the iron's functionality.
The iron has its place in my sewing/ironing/crafting tool arsenal but it does not replace a full size iron.
It may be a great iron for travel but an assessment will have to wait until travel is a reality.
The steam is gentle and may have limitations.

    UPDATE:

After 8 months of light use, it discolored. I don’t know whether it’s safe to use but won’t risk starting a fire so trashed it. It was difficult to use and always felt unsafe (burned fingers, resting on its face, etc.), so I’m not sorry to see it go—I just regret the financial waste.

    ————-

Fortunately I got this at a “used like new” price, because like so many others, it was DOA. The reservoir isn’t big enough to make adequate steam anyway, so 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Cons: It’s a fussy little bugger. The cord prevents you from safely standing it on end; you’re not supposed to leave it on high; it’s hard to hold; you MUST rest it on the silicon mat which is inconveniently small; yadda yadda yadda. You’ve read the reviews. They’re right.

Pros: It does heat up extremely fast, and it fits inside my 4” embroidery hoop, which was kind of the point of buying it.

Conclusion: It’s too expensive even at a discount, but I’m not sure there’s anything better out there; so I will probably keep it.
