Editorial Reviews
Review
"Erica L. Meltzer has written an excellent book that will teach students how to write clearly, concisely, coherently, and confidently. It goes far beyond Strunk and White's classic, The Elements of Style."

About the author

After scoring an 800 Verbal in high school, Erica Meltzer assumed she was done with the SAT for good. That changed in 2007, when she answered a Craigslist ad for an SAT tutor and inadvertently found herself in the high-pressure world of Manhattan test prep. Concerned by the lack of accurate, high-quality commercial SAT prep material, she began writing her own. Her first book, "The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar," has been widely praised as the most effective source of SAT grammar preparation and is currently used by tutoring companies across the United States.
A native of Brookline, Massachusetts and a graduate of Brookline High School (where she was required to memorize Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style" as a freshman), she holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and has also studied at Harvard, Columbia, and the Sorbonne. She lives and works in New York City, and you can visit her website at http://www.thecriticalreader.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2021A reference book/workbook for every level of development; however, I advise to read it twice.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2020*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.* I find this book very helpful and straightforward. It includes many informative charts and points out many common grammatical mistakes, as well as demonstrating the right way to use a certain word/phrase/punctuation mark. Each chapter includes thorough exercises (with answers) to help students master concepts. Besides explaining grammatical concepts, it also touches on style and spends an entire chapter discussing how to eliminate wordiness and polish up sentences. This book is excellent for reference and I would definitely recommend it for high school students like me.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2019I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review. I found it to be a very comprehensive book that covers grammar/punctuation/style topics that students would learn in class or need to use while writing essays. Also, I would recommend this book if you'd want your children to have a grammar reference book to use in high school, college, and beyond.
These topics covered in this book are also good to study for the SAT or ACT tests as well.
Overall, another great book from Erica Meltzer. Thank you!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2019This is a wonderful book, and I know it will be a big help to my teenager. Erica really knows what she is talking about. I subscribe to her blog, and it is full of really good information, not just fluff. It's clear she spent a lot of time on this much needed book about writing.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. (Erica asked recipients to include this statement, she is not out to deceive anyone!)
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2019This is an excellent guide! I also received a copy of this book in exchange for writing a review and I have taken awhile to write the review because I wanted to get through Erica’s latest book and give honest feedback.
I am a test prep tutor and college counselor and have used Erica’s other test prep books for years. She is very knowledgeable and thorough and this book does not disappoint! The exercises are great to use with ESL students and native speakers alike. You can use just the sections you need, or go through the whole book for a class on grammar and writing.
