Supportive, comfy, unattractive shoe

Supportive, comfy, unattractive shoe
I've had these shoes for almost two years now. I originally ordered them largely because I was having a hard time finding decent quality hiking shoes with wide sizes. I eventually settled on these, despite thinking they looked like the ugliest features of a sneaker combined with the ugliest features of a hiking boot.Even at my most out of shape, walking in these has always been easy. They're extremely comfortable and very supportive, while still allowing my foot to move. I haven't used them a lot in the two years I've had them, but I have taken them out for a few longer distances (for a casual hiker) and I've been incredibly pleased with their performance. Hiking over rocky surfaces and jumping around on slippery grass, I've never had a complaint about how these shoes feel.I've worn these shoes in snowy, slushy, and wet conditions, and I've only ever had an issue with water when the top of the toe box was submerged for a long step in a creek. Even then, they dried out well and were wearable again the next day without feeling like I was putting on a wet shoe.If you're looking for performance and don't care about aesthetics, I highly recommend this shoe. If you want something versatile enough to wear out to a nice dinner after your long day of walking, though, this isn't it.

I take my dog for a 45-minute walk in a gravel trail every weekday and a 2-hour walk in more difficult, rocky trails in nearby forests. For the weekend walk, I wear a pair of Timberland mid hiking boots for better ankle support. For the weekday trail walk, I used to wear Nike running sneakers. Last week the lacing part of my Nike sneakers split (after four years' use), so i decided to look for a pair of low hiking shoes for the daily trail walk. I googled "best hiking shoes for women" and found that Merrell Moab 2 Vent collection received most recommendations from various sources. And the price is within my budget range: $80-100. This was the first time I purchased Merrell shoes, so I had no idea about the sizing. I purchased two pairs at first: one is 7.5, the other is 8. Both of them were small. I returned those two and purchased a 8.5. For your reference about sizing, I wear 7 for Timberland boots, 7.5 for flats and Adidas sneakers, 8 for heels and Nike sneakers, AND 8.5 for Merrell hiking shoes. Other than the confusing sizing problem, the shoe is a great purchase. It's light and sturdy, with enough room in the toe box (medium width). Today I wore cotton socks for the walk (as the picture showed); my feet were still dry after the 45-minute walk in a 80-degree weather. I will buy more Merrell hiking shoes in the future.

A small complaint is that the insole is very hard. I myself won't be picky about this point for a hiking shoe at this price. Also, my feet didn't hurt after the walk. But if you are looking for a more cushioned hiking shoe, this is probably not your best option.

I've never bought hiking boots/shoes before, and I've never bought Merrell shoes before, so I can't say if the quality is the same as it has always been, but compared to my new balance sneakers these are to die for! I was afraid that buying Merrell shoes was more of a trend for hikers, but now I know that it's because they really are quality shoes. I bought these because I knew we were going hiking in West Texas and I wanted to make sure I had good grip and support in my shoes. These shoes have the best grip I've ever experienced! I was able to walk on slippery, slimy river rocks and smooth rock, with loose stones on top, at a 45 degree angle with ease. Literally no slipping period. I felt confident walking on any terrain for our entire trip. We walked 20+ miles in a few days and I have to say that my feet did hurt, but not because of a lack of support. I think my feet were just tired. I'm usually pretty sedentary. My arches never hurt, and the support in these shoes is also the best arch support I've ever experienced. I have a very high arch so I didn't feel like the arch support was perfectly snug with my arch but it was plenty. The only thing that bothered me when I first wore them was the snugness of the padding overall. It felt great because my foot felt stable and well supported, and I had plenty of room all around, but the cushioning in the top of the shoe where I laced them up felt like it was cutting off circulation. So i just didn't tie them very tight. I also had thick socks so that didn't help. After a couple of days this went away. I also have to say that I have never been able to tie my laces only once. I have always double knotted, but these laces never ever came undone even with one knot. And I walked a lot. Up and down mountains and kicking up stones. I would definitely buy these again, and I'm planning on buying these for my teenage daughters as well instead of wasting money on Nike or NB which have no support and no tred!

I've been testing these since 2019.
They are near indestructible. No rips, wear spots, or mishaps encountered. Excellent knobby tread that has superb traction. In fact, these shoes have the best traction out of any pair of shoes I've ever owned.
They are fairly thin soles, and I can 'feel the terrain' through them- while still being very stiff and protective. Seeing as they are a hiking shoe, I feel this is important to note.

Arch support is respectable, and i have also noticed there is excellent protection from the foot rocking inward. The shoes have held their shape excellent and never required a break in period.

My boyfriend wears them occasionally and they fit him great too. He can't feel any sort of impression where my feet naturally sit in the shoe. They are just as comfortable to him as they are to me.
I wear these on hikes but also wear them to work occasionally as they breathe excellent. Whereas- my work boots do not. They are not meant for standing on concrete all day, and i find my feet a little extra sensitive by the days end.
I also have very sweaty feet and my shoes tend to develop odor quickly. I was surprised at how resistant these have been to smell and have washed them a handful of times to assist with that.
I only fault these shoes for a modest toe box. I have average width feet, however as a 'hiker shoe' I wish these allowed my toes to fully expand when flexed. Im not crowded in them per say, but I wish a wide width was available. I do overall enjoy them and would recommend! True to size, and I almost never get it right the first try!

The shoe was too wide and didn't fit right in the toe area. I'm not sure it was designed like this or if it was just the wrong size for me. The sole looked very good and sturdy. I didn't care for the overall clunkiness look if it.

It would be a great shoe if you like room at the toes!

I've returned and ordered a different shoe.
