I was afraid to get one of the pressure cookers that had the top combined with the handle; it just seemed like it was too vulnerable to break the handle, since these things can get weighty filled with food, liquid, etc, and then you'd lose not only the handle but the top as well. The handles on these are strong, tough, and big enough to easily grab without having to get too close to the pot.
I love how heavy the pot is; I use it for other cooking besides pressure-cooking; I think it will last a long time.
I like how easy it is to install the lid; no trying to find "just the right spot" such that it can be sealed, etc; you just place the top on the rim, then twist the handle on the lid to lock it. the gasket inside the lid seems heavy and durable, and not prone to getting dry and cracked.
I like the pressure spigot; you just put it on all the way on the first use, and it just stays on; thus it doesn't get lost. I must admit, though, that nothing in the instructions tells you that you must firmly press down to get it all the way down; I didn't do that at first, and found it didn't work, until I figured it out. I find most user manuals these days don't give adequate directions for use of the product.
so, just remember to push the pressure release valve all the way down on its housing, until it's firmly on.
also, don't forget to twist the handle until it's sealed; I forgot one time and steam was coming out from the lid. I had to turn it off, cool it down, then take the handle off and put it on properly, seal it, then start again.
It's done a fine job with tough cuts of meat such as shanks and bear meat, which I usually have to bake for six hours to get it as tender!

This is my very first pressure cooker and I like that this can be used on both conduction and induction cook tops - though I am using it on conduction stove. I like the lock feature so i know the lid is properly and that there is a steam vent (not sure if that's the name) that pops up when the pressure has properly built up and I watch this same little indicator to determine when to open the pot (it should go back down). The lid is heavy and feels quite durable, the handles are sturdy as well. It cooks my soups so much faster and have begun using it to prepare some meats as well. I holds a good amount, which is why I purchased the 8qt. I'd buy another one, but do not need two.

Bought this after breaking the handle on an old pressure cooker when it was dropped. Was looking for something similar to the old one i had and this was a great replacement. Works wonderful and doesn’t break the bank

Update July 2020: I still love this and overlook any cons because it's such a workhorse. Bone broth is one of our staples - 3 hours on low-hiss with bay leaves, salt and vinegar produces thick and delicious healthy broth, and the colligan I save in the freezer gives pulled brisket, chicken or pork an unforgettable mouth-feel.

Original: Compared to other 8 quart PCs we've owned I love the lid quality of this. It doesn't twist on, so the gasket should last longer, and it doesn't have the long handle like the one we just wore out by the leverage and hand-clamping while lifting. The top is substantial and reassuring though heavier.

I dont know what to think about the shape. It's narrower than others and taller. so on one hand we can cook to a higher water line and on the other our kitchen island is counter height so my 5'6" wife has trouble looking down to the bottom without bending closer to the edge when browning.

This pot almost fits inside our old 8 quart Fagor (but not quite) and is about an inch taller.

Here's another possible con or at least something to think about: it seems that the electric "instant pot" type PCs are the rage on recipe websites, but they do not heat up like a stove-top does and they cook at lower pressure. As a result, if you go by their times you'll overcook! Last night's lamb recipe was about 25 minutes too long, and they had shortened the time already from the electric cooker recipe by 15 minutes... our lamb was all but destroyed. Also this unit does 15 psi so there may be a difference from 12 psi stovetop recipies as well.

I like to stick to a 50-minute rule of thumb for tough cuts of meat, while some recipes suggested 90 minutes or more!

  • Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2020
We scoured the 8-quart stainless steel pressure cooker market and found that the Cuisinart is the one that works the best and looks the best doing it. We ordered the Buffalo, Cuisinart, Presto, and Viking and steam tested all of them. The Cuisinart produces less steam in the room and is easiest to take the lid on and off. The Presto produced too much steam and did not have a valve that allows high pressure and low pressure. The Buffalo and Viking both took the strength of two hands and arms to put the lid on. My wife and I do not recommend either of them. We eliminated the Kuhn Rikon due to its high price (though we are sure it is a very good pressure cooker) and the T-Fal because of the painting embedded in its side… which is too bad because the T-Fal may be the best 8 quart pressure cooker except for its appearance.
